Hillsong: The multi-million dollar “crazy cult”

Tonight (the 21st of April, 2015), Australia’s ‘A Current Affair’ aired this report on Hillsong.

In spite of Hillsong’s continual lies, their facades of “relevancy” and their contemporary nonsensical gimmicks, the world still sees through it. The reality is this: the world is not being won over to Jesus Christ. In fact, Hillsong is giving the world an excuse to hate Christianity while Hillsong is militantly campaigning against biblical Christianity. Not only that, Hillsong is stealing Christians from other churches and taking over churches by force under the guise of “blessing” churches. It is time the media, the Australian Government and more importantly church leaders, stop calling Hillsong a church. Cults have always declared war on Christianity. Hillsong for decades have proven again and again to be a word of faith and prosperity cult. When will Christianity finally say enough is enough?

  1. Yet again ignorant empty vessels are making the most noise. How many of these faceless, uninformed detractors have actually set foot in Hillsong Church? Probably all their views come from Tracey Grimshaw on a night where there was little else to talk about (note I didn’t say report. You have to use facts to do that)

    • You’re ignorant if you’ve never set foot in Hillsong Church. You’re pathetic because you left Hillsong and are writing from hurt.

Keep defending your pope Mark. It only gives us insight how much your loyalty is in man and not in God.

    • One other thing Mark – you are completely out of line as a human being in defending a man who has covered up pedophilia in his church and was caught publicly lying. That’s the truth.

And the fact that you’re defending a lie as though it was truth proves you are nothing but a dangerous brainwashed individual.

  2. Every church asks for offerings, as that’s how they pay the bills and the wages. Many call it tithing, and we often think of that as 10 percent, though that’s not a new Testament requirement of course. I’m curious as to the amount of money coming in per capita of the people attending. It makes sense that the larger the congregation, the larger the amount of money. What bothers me about this video, is whoever put it together didn’t record the endless hours that money wasn’t talked about. They didn’t record the crazy amount of people who give their lives to Christ through this ministry. They didn’t record the endless hours of amazing sermons this man has spent 30 years preparing. You could to this same thing to anyone. If we only recorded the 10-15 seconds of any churches offering moments throughout a year, we could make any pastor look like they were greedy. Have those of you who criticize this man ever taken a few hours and listened to some of his teaching? He’s been around for many years, and I’ve been blessed with His insights. God says when one is faithful with little He will entrust him with more. Brian was faithful with little for a lot of years, and no one condemned him in his barely getting by years, but now that he has been entrusted with much…you judge. Who do you think entrusted him with one of the largest churches that exists today? And with that comes a large amount of responsibility, and a large amount of money. Did any of you stop to think that God Himself could be at the helm of this financial blessing? And of course they don’t want offering time put out there for the world to see, as the scripture says the left hand is not to know what the right hand is giving. I think whoever made this video should give equal time to his sermons, the salvations that take place, the prayer lines that form…the whole picture. Judge not lest you be judged.

    • True Christianity makes one wise. Hillsong continually shows to produce the antithesis. Hillsong apologists like yourself regularly illustrates the contrast between the Christian faith and the Hillsong faith.

Can we request you review your response and submit again a more well thought out argument with the benefit of time and hindsight?

    • It sounds to me like you really don’t want anyone to disagree with your way of thinking. I’m not a Hillsong apologist, nor am I into Hillsong faith. To be honest, I struggle with anyone who feels it’s their duty to bash other ministries publically, and do it under the guise of “informing the public.” Just like those who bash Joel Osteen. He has a huge church, he brings in lots of money, but he doesn’t preach hell fire and damnation, so those who do preach that way feel the freedom to condemn him. Bottom line, he leads many to Christ, as does Brian Houston. So my question is, how many of those who criticize these men have lead as many people to Christ as they have? Have you led as many to Christ? If not, perhaps you shouldn’t be trying to remove another’s speck. Even Jesus didn’t bash others that were doing a good work in His name. Mark 9:38 John said to Him, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to prevent him because he was not following us.” But Jesus said, “Do not hinder him, for there is no one who will perform a miracle in My name, and be able soon afterward to speak evil of Me. “For he who is not against us is for us. Anyway, if you don’t want to share my post, don’t. I’m not going to sugar coat it so it agrees with the way you think. I thought the point being able to respond was to share your point of view. Respectfully yours, DJ

    • Thanks for commenting DJ – There are so many ways to respond to your comment, so first a question. Does the size of a church equate with successfully preaching the gospel? Does bringing in “lots of money” prove the gospel is being preached? How do you know that “these men have lead as many people to Christ”? Again, does size and financial prosperity equate with successfully preaching the gospel?

“Joel Osteen is only a pastor because anyone can call themselves a pastor these days, and his church is only a church because anything can call itself a church these days. I happen to be of the old fashioned school of thought that believes a pastor should be, in some ways, distinguishable from Tony Robbins or Oprah, and a church should be, in some ways, distinguishable from a basketball arena on game day. I’m not saying that all churches need to be adorned with stained glass windows and incense (although I’m a fan of both), but I am saying that maybe all churches should have, like, a cross or something somewhere, maybe. God forbid a house of worship be arranged in such a way as to make it clear that we are specifically worshipping Jesus Christ and not the smiley fellow on stage giving the vaguely spiritual pep talk.”

    • And Australia deserves the Pringles and Houstons:

“America (Australia) deserves the Osteens (Pringles & Houstons). The consumer culture, the cult of the therapeutic, the marketing impulse, and the sheer superficiality of American (Australian) cultural Christianity probably made the Osteens (Pringles & Houstons) inevitable. The Osteens (Pringles & Houstons) are phenomenally successful because they are the exaggerated fulfillment of the self-help movement and the cult of celebrity rolled into one massive mega-church media empire. And, to cap it all off, they give Americans (Australians) what Americans (Australians) crave — reassurance delivered with a smile.”

    • Newtaste:

Your ‘love’ towards those who are in desperate need of a Saviour is overwhelming. #lovingbrianhouston #hatingthelost? #seethecostofyourownredemption

      Cheers, Team ChurchWatch.

    • For many men who support Hillsong Tanya has two counts her against her. Firstly, is is criticising the sacred cow and secondly, she is a woman! “Newtaste” is only exhibiting what is a common characteristic of many of the men who support Hillsong in my humble opinion.

  4. “Tanya has two counts her against her. Firstly, is is criticising the sacred cow and secondly, she is a woman!”

It’s not clear what you meant with the sacred cow comment, as the ‘is is’ is confusing.

That Levin is a woman had nothing to do with it. Hillsong has nothing against women. church watch and Rosebrough have though with their mediaeval interpretation of scripture that women should be subservient to their husband, never be a leader over a man nor be a pastor, and never speak in church. Sort of Brethren on steroids.

  5. But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was. But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance, persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me. Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived. But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. (‭II Timothy‬ ‭3‬:‭1-17‬ NKJV)

  6. “Hillsong is stealing Christians from other churches and taking over churches by force under the guise of “blessing” churches.”

If anyone is truly in Christ, knows the truth of His word, and can discern false teachings, they cannot be stolen by anyone to attend their church. If they are so easily swayed to follow another, being guiled by words that cater to their own itching ears, then I pray they start reading the Bible and learn how to discern falsehood.

As far as Hillsong…God will bless the truthful and punish the deceivers. Not that is a tragedy for them.

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

  7. You say Hillsong is stealing other Church congregations? If the Church is preaching and teaching the unchanging Word of God, these people would discern a (cult) straight away. If they are led by the Spirit then they would have some kind of acknowlegdgement that something is wrong. Have these other Churches not been diligent in teaching the Word? The Bible is very clear in telling us to go into the World and preach the Gospel. ” take the log out of your own eye, before seeing the spec in some one else’s” is a scripture we need to remind our selves of daily. It is easy to sit o mJudgement, and based on what is shown in this video , any person with any common sense would know, that only a half truth has been shown, which is what sensational TV reporting is all about. A more balanced review should have been done.

  8. The last people to realise they belong to a cult are the people who so vehemently defend it
