SATAN AND HIS SERVANTS: WORKERS OF LAWLESSNESS

At the very beginning of Genesis – Adam and Eve interacted with two beings:

1. One was a law giver.
2. One was a law breaker.

In 1 Corinthians 11, Paul the Apostle paints the church as Eve being beguiled by the law breaker (Satan). However, Paul claims that “false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ” (vs 3) were the  “servants” who “disguise themselves as servants of righteousness” just (like Satan does as an angel of light). These “deceitful workmen” are of their father the devil, the law breaker.

We see a similar tone again in Jesus’ warning against false prophets that come to his disciples in sheeps clothing in Matthew 7. Don’t be fooled into thinking that they come as sheep. They come as SHEPHERDS who wear garments made of the sheep’s wool. It is Christ himself who says that these false shepherd did not know Jesus.

That’s quite the claim but how is this possible?

The clue is in Jesus’ proclamation about their spiritual state:

“I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.”

It makes sense: workers of lawlessness promote lawlessness in Jesus’ name. They are accountable to no one, not even Gods’ Word. And the reason why they are not accountable to God’s Word is because they don’t know God to begin with or even believe His Word. They can only worship a “god” that is as lawless as them.

AN EXAMPLE OF A WORKER OF LAWLESSNESS: STEVEN FURTICK

Furtick gives a great example of this in the segment below he advertised for his sermon titled, ‘It Works Both Ways’. However, let us first present the case from scripture as to who God really says He is.

Christ says,

“And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.” John 17:3

So let’s get to know God more in Jesus Christ’s sermon on the mount:

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” Matthew 5:17

You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Matthew 5:48

It is clear that neither the Father or the Son of the Trinity are lawbreakers. However, if Steven Furtick really knew God, he would not brazenly teach that God broke his Holy Law to save people. That would mean this:

“For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it.” James 2:10

For God to break the Law would mean that God Himself is a law breaker. If Steven Furtick knew God and his Word, Furtick wouldn’t accuse God of being a law breaker.

However, since Furtick clearly believes what he is saying is the gospel, this means he is worshiping not God – but the Law Breaker in Jesus’ name. In his arrogance, Furtick has exposed the heart of what a false teacher is all about: before Christ’s throne – all their glory was in their lawless works before a law-keeping God. Furtick’s gospel is failing to grasp what is to make him right before Christ on judgment day – and that is FRIGHTENING!
