Creflo Dollar has made the following comment on his Creflo Dollar Ministries website:
“Poverty is a spirit that comes from Satan, who is the father of lies.”
This is a common teaching peddled by Health and Wealth (HAW) heretics like Creflo Dollar. They often make the claim that poverty comes from Satan.
We only need to look at the scriptures that sometimes riches AND poverty come from God:
“And behold, a man came up to him, saying, “Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?” And he said to him, “Why do you ask me about what is good? There is only one who is good. If you would enter life, keep the commandments.” He said to him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, “You shall not murder, You shall not commit adultery, You shall not steal, You shall not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother, and, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” The young man said to him, “All these I have kept. What do I still lack?” Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.” Mathew 19:16-22
Or you can look at Jesus talking about how the rich man went to hell and how poor Lazarus was found in Abraham’s bosom (Luke 16).
In fact, Jesus continually speaks about wealth in a negative light. Jesus claims that when people “hear the word… the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful” in his parable of the four soils (Mark 4:18-19).
HAW heretics preach Christ teach Jesus Christ is rich, Christ died to make you rich, that you must tithe and demands that you are to “bless to be a blessing”.
Poverty is not a spirit that comes from Satan. God gives riches and God gives poverty. To attribute poverty to Satan is to call God Satan – and this is often a line that HAW preachers cross far too often.
Creflo Dollar Ministries writes,
Overcoming a Poverty Mentality
There is a difference between speaking those things that are not as though they were and lying. In fact, when we declare what the Word of God says about our situation, regardless of what it looks like, we are demonstrating our faith. There is a difference between truth and facts. Facts are ever-changing, but truth—the truth of God’s Word—remains constant. Although the fact may be that you are living from paycheck to paycheck right now, the truth is that Jesus paid for your peace—your well being, wholeness, and prosperity—on the cross. You can change the facts surrounding your circumstances by placing your focus on the truth of God’s Word rather than the problem. John 10:10 in The Amplified Bible says, “… I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).”
Poverty is a spirit that comes from Satan, who is the father of lies. It grieves me to see this spirit operating in the lives of Believers. It is not the will of God for His children to be “broke, busted, and disgusted.” Every Christian has a blood-bought right to wealth and riches (Psalm 66:12; Psalm 112:3; Proverbs 13:22). Sadly, many have chosen to believe the lie that “money is the root of all evil” or that it is ungodly to have material possessions. However, 1 Timothy 6:10 says that it is the love of money—a wrong relationship with it—that is the root of all evil. And Ephesians 2:10 in The Amplified Bible makes it clear that God has predestined you to live “the good life.”
Ask yourself this question: “Is the spirit of poverty operating in my life?” If you are unsure of the answer, answer “yes” or “no” to the following statements to help you identify whether or not it is.
– I am quick to justify or make excuses for my financial situation.
– I am afraid to give offerings under the direction of the Holy Spirit.
– I govern my finances out of fear. I am afraid that if I tithe or give, I won’t have enough money left over.
– I don’t recognize God as my Source.
– I am critical of those who preach the “prosperity message.”
– I am suspicious of wealthy Christians—especially those who call themselves ministers.
– I often wonder, “Does it take all of that?”
If you answered yes to any of these statements, then begin to renew your mind with scriptures such as Joshua 1:8, Psalm 35:27, Deuteronomy 8:18, and 3 John 1:2. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17). When you speak and hear the Word concerning prosperity, your mind will be transformed from your old way of thinking.
You will begin to see yourself as the Father sees you—prosperous!
You are what God says you are, and you can have all that He says you can have. Decide today to make the Word of God the final authority in your life and watch His promises of prosperity begin to manifest!

Likewise you will never hear Creflo Dollar bring up Luke 6: 20-21,24-25:
20 Looking at his disciples, he said:
“Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.
21 Blessed are you who hunger now,
for you will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who weep now,
for you will laugh.
24 “But woe to you who are rich,
for you have already received your comfort.
25 Woe to you who are well fed now,
for you will go hungry.
you people have no freaking clue how to read and understand greek and hebrew. The blessed are poor statement was jesus telling the self righteous people of Judea that god loves and accepts all people regardless of their class, race, sex, gender, preference, etc. It’s not jesus advocating poverty you idiots. If he advocated poverty why did he feed thousands of people with leftovers equally abundance? You blind fools actually believe a loving god wants you poor. Then sell your computer and smart phone you freaking hypocrites. How many jeans do you own? how about shoes? is your fridge stocked? Since you believe god wants you poor than why do you have savings accounts and investments? Are you saving money for your children? do you tell them they should be poor? Such morons, you can’t see how blind Satan has made you.
These verses from the Bible are also relevant regarding poverty and riches. “Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.” (Jas 1:9-10 KJV)
