Why We Started This Site:

This site exists solely to identify and warn people about the dangerous ‘churches’, sects and movements that we monitor. We do not ask for or take money from any people or organisations.

Originally starting as a group of concerned pastors, elders and church members from various denominations around Australia on Facebook, the main focus of Church Watch Central is to warn and inform people about these counterfeit churches, sects and movements those both inside and outside the movement. We ask that you pray for those caught up in these movements.

What We Do:

This site is about monitoring various sects and movements that claim to be Christian. While many Christians are snared by numerous sects and movements, these groups, although they use Christian language, concepts and literature, more often reflect the values, philosophies and and ideas of modern culture. Thus they often present a counterfeit or hybrid Christianity.

1. We  WATCH ‘church’ values by critically examining their beliefs.
2. We DISCERN their teachings by comparing their doctrines, behaviours and methods to the historical texts of the bible.
3. We INVESTIGATE ‘church’ histories, knowing their influences, sources and attempt to define their language and ideas.
4. We MONITOR ‘church’ visions, events/issues and outcomes and compare them to the standards of the gospel and New Testament church, revealed in the New Testament scriptures.
5. We TEST ‘church’ leaders’ spirituality by comparing the Persons of the Trinity as seen the bible with their ‘God’ encounters, their ‘Jesus’ and their prophecies from God.

Our Story:

Founded by pastors, elders and members from various denominations around Australia (now with pastoral contributors from around the world), CWC investigates and publishes news on controversies, reports on scandals, resources on discernment and tools to identify cults and sects. Originally they were founded in Australia on:

• 20 July 2011 to report on the Christian City Church (C3) cult c3churchwatch.com.
• 22 July 2011 to report on the Hillsong cult hillsongchurchwatch.com.

When elders and members presented their biblical concerns to the leadership, rather than consider these concerns prayerfully, they were instead maligned by the C3 founder, who making obscene gestures from the pulpit with his hands, told ‘ChurchWatchers to grow a pair’.

As a result, rather than ‘disappear’, through God’s providence this ‘anonymous’ group instead grew and gained publicity. Often reported, quoted and sourced in Asian news groups (ChannelNewsAsia, AsiaOne, EmeritusTimes, Straits Times, TR Emeritus) due to their footage and audio coverage of the City Harvest Church Singapore financial scandal, arrest, trial and jail for the accused. On 31 July 2014, CWC began to report on the CHC cult, resulting in CWC founding CHCchurchwatch.com, reporting on the massive scandal around Kong Hee and the network that was backing him.

From the beginning, CWC have been reporting on David Yonggi Cho’s ‘Yoido Full Gospel Church’ (YFGC), the biggest ‘church’ in the world.

Due to eldership unrest in YFGC, CWC launched yoidofullgospelchurchwatch (no longer available) on 22 September 2014. Our coverage on the outrageous financial scandals of CHC, YFGC, C3 and the sexual abuse cover-up at Hillsong (Hillsong were summoned to a Royal Commission on institutional response to child sexual abuse) fuelled our content to appear on search engines around the world. This resulted in a surge of people asking if we could investigate  churches and movements they attend, and to address other religious scandals, with these requests continuing through to this day. In 2014, a successful effort was made by C3, CHC and Hillsong to remove our YouTube channel. After much discussion and planning, we launched Church Watch Central on 6 December 2014. This meant we could upload all our own videos and cover any ‘church’, scandal and controversy in one place.

Our global coverage across these cults has been accessed by the New York Times, Christian Post, Christianity Today, Religious News Service, Pulpit & Pen and countless blogs, forums, podcasts, YouTube channels, the Bible Society and even ‘gag-rags’ such as Charisma Magazine. Although Church Watch Central often engages with reporters from CNN, Fox News, Sydney Morning Herald, Daily Telegraph and other news organisations around the world to provide primary sources end reliable resources in their reporting, CWC does not conduct ‘personal interviews’.

We are often questioned about the ‘anonymity’ of leaders and members of our CWC team. The cults and movements we monitor can be dangerous and some are quite prepared to destroy the reputations of people who expose their false teaching. The original core CWC team has changed significantly, growing both in membership and who they are accountable to. For instance, the late Ken Silva played a major role as an accountability pastor. As a result, all CWC team members have pastoral oversight from their own church communities. The ‘polemics’ road has not been easy. Thank you for your ongoing prayers, love and support.
