While writing the article, ‘The origins of Hillsong (Part 6): Latter Rain theology in Hillsong worship‘, we were also trying to track down another one of Hillsong’s earlier songs titled ‘Heaven Suffers Violence’. This song was written by Brian Houston and released in 1988 on CLC/Hillsong’s album ‘Spirit and Truth’. (In a future article, we will explain the particular NAR theology behind this song).
This song is not to be found anywhere online. However, we were notified of a Hillsong article and video that was uploaded to Hillsong’s blog, with Brian Houston saying he wrote this song.
We are trying to find the actual lyrics from the album. (Please email us at c3churchwatch@hotmail.com if you know the lyrics of the original). At the moment, we recall a rendition of this song with lyrics similar to this:

“And I think sometimes with our worship, we get so caught up with all these new songs. We need to get back to basics. We need to get back to some of those grand old songs. Can you remember that song ‘Heaven Suffers Violence’?
I mean that was a great song! Great words! I mean, such melodic tune. So incredible! That’s what we should be singing! ‘Heaven Suffers Violence’! Who was that written by again? That was – me. Hahaha! No wonder it was so good!”
