On Charisma Mag and Charisma News web pages, they are both registered as being part of the “Charisma Media” organization. With that in mind we see that Senior Editor of Charisma Magazine, Jennifer LeClaire recently wrote about media for their reporting about Joel Osteen’s ‘lies’ regarding his church being inaccessible to Harvey Hurricane victims.
Titled, ‘Sick, Shameful Lie About Joel Osteen Goes Massively Viral,’ LeClaire condemned the media claiming, “the Bible warns against bearing false witness. This was clearly an assignment from the pit of hell to slander him at a time when we should be focused on helping Texas recover.”
But what was the slander against Osteen and Lakewood? The media rightly reported Lakewood Church saying, “Lakewood Church is inaccessible due to severe flooding” – then later quoted their saying: “We have never closed our doors”. And they rightly exposed the lack of charity towards those in dire need of immediate shelter from the effects of the hurricane. However, LeClaire and Charisma Media care more about defending the interests of their prosperous Apostolic friends. This is because Charisma Media are an organization founded by Apostle Steve Strang, an Apostle of the New Apostolic Reformation cult. Many Christians think this “christian” media organization exists to promote Christianity – when in fact, their main focus is serving the New Apostolic Network and spreading their unbiblical doctrines.
It’s also worth noting that Jennifer LeClaire works for Charisma Media, the news group that also includes Charisma News.
We recorded Charisma Media reporting the very thing LeClaire claimed was, “from the pit of hell:”
“Though the megachurch has received some flak for not opening its doors as an emergency shelter…” [Source]
In other words, LeClaire condemned the reporting of the very organization she works for:
“This was clearly an assignment from the pit of hell to slander him at a time when we should be focused on helping Texas recover.”
The reason why Osteen was reprimanded? Because he refused to immediately open his church doors when people asked for help. The focus should have been to help Texas recover. However Osteen procrastinated until his public image and reputation began to be brought into question.
So there is nothing so far in her criticism that gives her credibility to speak about Osteen and the media.
Furthermore, after condemning people who were rightly calling out Joel Osteen, ‘journalist’ Jennifer LeClaire then has the audacity to ask: “Can we get some responsibility in journalism, please?”
If Jennifer LeClaire really wants “responsibility in journalism,” she should quit her job and actively campaign against the NAR propaganda Charisma Media organization.
The main purpose of Charisma Media and its offshoot organizations appears to be only to promote wolves and cult leaders as legitimate Christian leaders. If they want to be the leading face of Christian media but are renowned for spreading nothing but blasphemy and division, why does the Christian community continue to give them credence?
Frankly, it’s bad reporting, along with Senior Editors like LeClaire, who create gullible audiences, known even for sharing Babylon Bee satire articles as though they are legitimate news! (The Babylon Bee satire site has more integrity in its articles than anything LeClaire has ever written – at least they clearly advertise their articles are satire!)
Jenifer LeClaire writes,
Sick, Shameful Lie About Joel Osteen Goes Massively Viral
Hurricane Harvey has brought devastation to Houston. The National Weather Service called it “beyond anything experienced.” Many were killed and it will take years for the state to fully recover from the wicked storm’s impacts.
Amid this, some bait click opportunists are using the moment to attack Joel Osteen—and the mainstream news media is falling for the bait hook, line and sinker.
According to the Babylon Bee:
Although Joel Osteen took flak over the weekend for closing up his church to flood victims and all but disappearing during the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, the megachurch pastor reportedly returned to the city on his luxury yacht “S.S. Blessed” to make amends Tuesday by tossing copies of Your Best Life Now to stranded flood survivors.
Osteen had his on-call yacht captain steer the large vessel through the flooded streets of the city, pulling up to survivors stranded on their roofs and on the roof of their cars as the prosperity gospel preacher smiled, waved, and threw out signed editions of the bestselling positive thinking book … Osteen also paused for brief photo ops with several families, the smiling pastor briefly allowing them to board his yacht as his professional photography team got shots of the pastor together with the sobbing, distraught flood victims, though the pastor was careful to not stand too close to the mud-caked refugees. Sources confirmed that the pastor then had his assistants help the families back into their makeshift lifeboats or tree logs on which they were floating through the city.
Although this was clearly marked satire—and Snopes exposed the error—many believed the story as gospel truth.
Can we get some responsibility in journalism, please? I suppose Joel is an easy target at some level since he’s a happy guy with a mega church and mega prosperity. But the Bible warns against bearing false witness. This was clearly an assignment from the pit of hell to slander him at a time when we should be focused on helping Texas recover.
