Smelling in the Spirit?

This article is not satire – but you could be excused for thinking it is. We know Satan is always targeting the faithful, however it’s not the ‘faithful’ falling for this nonsense, it’s the ‘faithful’ exposing the foolishness for what it is.

“The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps.” Proverbs 14:15

And we have to ask the question – is this how Jennifer LeClaire initially identified ‘the sneaky squid spirit’? Has Jennifer already prepared products for her willing consumers (now this is satire):

Jennifer LeClaire has announced the launch of her new perfume “Squid”, inspired her ability to smell in the Spirit. #satire

From LeClaire’s website:

‘From the fragrance of God to the fragrance of demons and beyond, we do have the ability to smell in the spirit. Many don’t undertand this aspect of the gift of discerning of Spirits. Jennifer LeClaire teachers you in the School of the Seers.

The source of the ‘fragrance’

In Charismatic, Narismatic (and some Pentecostal sects), there is a teaching that associates the nose with discernment. According to our research, this came from the hyper-spiritual and ‘Christian Science’/New Age works of Clarence Larkin. He helped popularise the New Age belief in Christianity that man is made of three parts: body, soul and spirit, the carnal body operating under through five gates – one being the ‘smell gate’:

Clarence-Larkin-Anthropology

Overtime, this teaching on discernment has become further perverted by Charismatics and Narismatics. Although they claim to be discerning, they misread ‘discernment’ from this passage, elevating the ‘discernment of spirits’ against the importance of proper biblical discernment in other passages:

“To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits…” 1 Corinthians 12:10

Here is an example of the dangerous Watchman Nee teaching on this type of ‘nose discernment’:

“The nose has not been spoken of until now. The faculty of smell is found only with the mature ones. In spiritual matters, many have bright eyes and sensitive ears. But not many have a nose that can smell. This sense does not come from spoken words or visible things; it is an inward ability that reaches beyond senses and words, which enables a person to differentiate good and bad smells. This is a kind of spiritual intuition that enables a person to identify the things that are of God. It is not by reason or logic, but by a spontaneous and inwardly accurate feeling, which enables a person to discern spiritual matters.”

Witness Lee, his blind disciple writes:

“At the same time, if you are one who has learned to judge your flesh and has dealt with your fleshly person, you will find most conspicuous the flesh in another person who is fleshly. You will have a keen spiritual sense of smell. This sense of smell becomes your discernment. We read in the Bible that a priest who serves God cannot have a flat nose (Lev. 21:18). The flat nose denotes a lack of spiritual sense and a lack of spiritual discerning ability.”

In reality, Jennifer LeClaire is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Being the scam artist she is, what kind of person does LeClaire look for to fall for her scam? She attracts people who are gullible and willing to believe anything. We put forth the assertion that because Dr. Michael Brown has given his imprimatur to this wolf, Jennifer LeClaire now has access to thousands of these gullible believers. As the false shepherd goes, so go the gullible sheep.

“Stench” – the true fragrance of Jennifer LeClaire’s false ministry.

“For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things? For we are not, like so many, peddlers of God’s word, but as men of sincerity, as commissioned by God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.” 2 Corinthians 2:15-17
