Within Charismatic and Pentecostal circles, special attention is given to the day of Pentecost. So it comes as no surprise to note that this ‘attention’ puts a lot of emphasis on the third Person of the Trinity manifesting God’s promises on earth on this special day honouring His arrival and the birth of the early church.
Both Pentecostals and Charismatics praise the Person of the Holy Spirit for bringing the conviction and repentance of sins which was seen at Pentecost (Pentecostals) or establishing the gifts (charisma) of the Holy Spirit in His Church (Charismatics). However what later manifested, particularly within the cult of the New Order of the Latter Rain and the New Apostolic Reformation, was their ‘Gospel of Power’ – brought in by John Wimber and C. Peter Wagner back in the 1970s during the ‘Third Wave Movement’ (TWM). This movement especially emphasised dominion, ‘Power Evangelism’ and ‘Power Ministries’. ‘Dynamus’ was the new doctrine on the block – the backbone for a lot of NAR theology. So it’s also no surprise that many NAR crusades and ‘revivals’ will focus on God pouring out his ‘Spirit of power’ on the ruling end-times church.
And this is where the NAR sadly fall into blasphemy – especially in movements like Bethel, Christian City Church (C3) and Hillsong in Australia. While both Pentecostals and Charismatics accept the Holy Spirit as the third Person of the Trinity, the ‘dominion/power/dunamis’ element is unbiblically emphasised in NAR theology, thus reducing God the Holy Spirit to simply a power, force or energy.
PHIL DOOLEY – THE BEST PASTOR HILLSONG COULD FIND FOR THE JOB?
This is what was preached last Pentecost Sunday at Hillsong. Phil Dooley could not have said anything more theologically incorrect about the Holy Spirit in the following sermon. This was taken from his sermon AFTER it was edited. None of those sitting on the front row hearing this blasphemy, (leaders included), thought it be wise to edit it out. No disclaimer. No apology. No repentance. Nothing.
“… in the power of the Holy Spirit of God in a way that was never ever known or experienced before, this dynamic energy that is designed to be written on human hearts. The Law written on stone tablets. The energy of the Holy Spirit written on human hearts.”
The Holy Spirit IS God and is a person of the Godhead that can be lied to (Acts 5:3), insulted (Heb 10:29), resisted (Acts 7:51), quenched (1 Thes 5:19), grieved (Eph 4:30) and blasphemed (Matt 12:31–32).
However, according to Hillsong’s new senior leader, the Holy Spirit is ‘designed’ to be nothing more than a ‘dynamic energy’ that is to be written on human hearts. For Dooley to abysmally fail in front of all his audiences on Pentecost Sunday, highlights how theologically bankrupt the leadership of Hillsong really is. If this is the best pastor Hillsong has got to offer, we should all pray that the Holy Spirit bring these men and women to full repentance.

CONCLUSION
This is the same Hillsong church who claims that those attending are receiving “THE Word of God”. How can any discerning believer defend such unbiblical words from Phil Dooley? Most Pentecostal/Charismatic churches and their leaders are not this incompetent in handling God’s Word about the arrival of the third Person of the Trinity on the Day of Pentecost. On a day that honours the Holy Spirit as God, Hillsong instead reduces Him to a demonic new age power – an ‘it’.
Jesus’ own words have already brought Phil Dooley under reproach:
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” John 14:26
