Current Chairperson of Council at Alphacrucis College praises Brian Houston’s ‘authentic’ ministry.

THE COVER-UP CULTURE IS ALIVE AND WELL

The typical cult-like propaganda swung into action at the beginning of this year when Hillsong leader Brian Houston announced he was stepping down from his leadership position – little did people know the bigger reason behind this action. Nevertheless, this did not stop the predictable empty accolades and heart-felt rubbish to quickly flood social media. Not long after the announcement of Brian Houston stepping down, former Shirelive Church Pastor and current Chairperson of Council at Alphacrucis, Michael Murphy began praising the life and work of Brian Houston.

Michael Murphy

The current Chairperson of Council at Alphacrucis Michael Murphy.

At the bottom of Michael Murphy’s social media post were comments sadly highlighting the nature of some of the visible church. These are people who claim to ‘know’ Brian Houston better. If they did, they should have known what was coming.

Contrary to the opinions below, the church is not “going through turmoil” because Hillsong is being “exposed”. The church is going through a cleansing with many of its true sheep leaving Hillsong and its shambles, while the goats remain to continue to elevate Brian Houston and the Hillsong movement above God’s Word.

It is worth noting in the comment section the presence of ‘apostolic leaders’ from the New Apostolic Reformation such as Isi de Gersigny and Paul de Jong’s wife, Deborah.

Michael Murphy writes:

BRIAN HOUSTON REFLECTION

Yesterday, my longtime friend of nearly 40 years and Snr Pastor, Brian Houston, announced that given the current pending legal proceedings, he will be standing aside from all his Hillsong Global Leadership responsibilities until the conclusion & resolution of what is pending.

This is an historic & epic shift on so many fronts, for Brian personally, Hillsong as a church & the broader Church of Jesus Christ. Under the leadership of he & his wife Bobbie, Hillsong grew from humble beginnings to be one of the most significant expressions of Christianity in the world today.

The influence of Hillsong extends way beyond the filled stadiums, globally renowned music, arguably one of the most known “brands” Globally and the continual investment in generations of thousands of young people (at a time when much of the church is aging).

The generosity of Hillsong in feeding the poor, advocating for the vulnerable and supporting thousands of other local churches over the years, though less known and even less written about, is nonetheless authentically part of the reality of who Hillsong are. All of this has been accomplished under Brian’s leadership from the most obscure of foundations with just a handful of people meeting in a small suburban public school hall in the early 80’s.

This is just after it all started for me.
I walked into a church service quite a broken & messed up 22 year old who, myself a sexual abuse victim 8 years earlier, encountered the gospel message, the person of Jesus Christ and a loving community of believers which literally saved my life.

My thoughts of hopelessness which on more than one occasion could have led me to despair of life itself, were quickly replaced by an optimistic sense of hope & expectation of the future. This happened to & for me under the loving leadership of Brian Houston.

Thank you Brian for being faithful to God’s call to plant Hillsong Church (& for all that that has cost you and for being there as God’s servant to help give me a new lease on life!

Brian was the one preaching God’s word when I responded to get my relationship with Jesus on track, he believed in me and gave me my first opportunities in ministry and he provided a first class example of how to love his wife & family. Brian has always been a lover of people and a champion of the church of Jesus Christ.

Thank you Brian for the way you believed in me and have done the same for literally thousands of others.

I don’t think anyone, least of all ratings chasing commentators, will ever know the near unbearable pressure that comes with leading Australia’s most high profile church. The relentless media circus has been non stop. With sometimes half truths and almost always a sinister slant, it seems that in this “ratings generation”, nothing will stand in the way of a good story.

And yet, week after week, month after month, Brian has put aside his own feelings to bounce back strongly and come up again smiling from the heart to encourage God’s people with His word & point people to Jesus.

Thank you Brian for the way you have stood up as a leader & communicator of God’s word despite the personal pain & opposition.

Hillsong “bashing” has become somewhat of a global pastime from certain sections of the media and sadly also from some quarters of Christianity.

This has become somewhat of a “popularist sport” from journos keenly vying for full of anticipation for the biannual ratings injection. It flows from the pens & microphones of commentators armed with a hefty dose of hindsight, way less understanding of what it actually takes to actually lead something where 100’s of thousands of people are involved and an acute focus on any misstep by any one of Hillsong’s hundreds of staff or thousands of leaders globally.

Now what I’m not saying is that Hillsong is perfect or that Brian is without fault. He recently has gone on public record acknowledging some of the mistakes, issues & cultural challenges that are facing Hillsong church around the globe. I not only know Brian well but also many of the key men & women who form the various global & local boards. They are people of standing & integrity and they are well down the road to fixing some of the problems, righting the wrongs & dealing with the difficulties that have arisen in recent years.

The couple that have been given the responsibility as interim Global Lead Pastors during the next 12 months, Phil & Lucinda Dooley, I have known for over 35 years. They are one of the most outstanding leadership couples I know of anywhere in the world.

Not only have they raised up an amazing church of 10’s of thousands of people from scratch in South Africa, where they feed the hungry and are intimately involved in many community building projects, but they really are lovely people. Authentic to a fault, they will love & lead the Global Hillsong movement with grace & wisdom, as long as they have this weighty responsibility.

So with Brian now free to focus up on the matters that are before him, I for one am incredibly grateful for all that he has been to Valery & me and will continue to be in the years ahead.

I am praying for rest & refreshing for you Brian, for God’s grace & wisdom to be with you in abundance over the next 12 months. I am also praying for Phil & Lucinda as they embark on the journey of taking the church onward over the next year.

Sad overall. The church is definitely experiencing turmoil and we need to keep perspective through prayer and integrity as our benchmark. We will survive globally but remember our gifts can take us where our character cannot keep us. How deep are we willing to go and grow in true discipleship so we can represent the Kingdom in honor.

Then the civil trial against the pastor for 5 million dollars because one young man contracted AIDS. In this case my pastor denied the 2IC was gay for years. It was non-stop turmoil. I know the families in the Hillsong case and well, Brian did things correctly.

Later (whist battling stage 4 cancer in 2018) Brett sought compensation from the AOG movement, but was rejected.
Brett, and advocates for him sought many times to bring resolution that if responded to appropriately could have descalated things.

Great to hear something positive for once ! My late godly mother in law had a saying that one’s strengths can also be their weakness! We are all human subject to our limitations and strengths. I thought Brian’s father’s crime was dealt with years ago and now it is brought up again ! There was on TV Ch 9 two fresh allegations of sexual harassment and one of rape within the church’s confines, and these appear to have been covered up, as one perpetrator’s father is a financial influence within the church! As for Brian’s late father’s abused man the story goes that his pleas were ignored and no adequate compensation was provided! This is what irks me, understanding that the church has given bountifully towards others ! Your testimonial is good to hear but what of these seemingly undealt incidents? Some Christians are quite scathing in their comments about Hillsong but me being part of the Body of Christ want to recognise that I am part of them, though it is many years since we went to one of their services! I do not go to a mega church as such but just a small main stream church. I once went to large charismatic churches when was much younger, but no more !

Brian is an incredible human being who has done what most others have not done in their life time for a single cause of salvation of souls. critics are a “dime a dozen” and most are ignorant of the absolute facts. Are you kidding me???
Apart from your own testimony Michael, the rest of what you’ve written is absolutely BS!!!
If they’d cared for the homeless & fed the poor then I wouldn’t have been moved from a DV Refuge to their Mt Gravatt homeless facility on the carpark of the Church that was closed down by the Dept of Health because of it’s inhabitability!!!
I begged to NOT go there despite being a Christian…. hence why I was sent there!
For $240/wk, the floor was infested with mould…my feet eternally black, the floor in the kitchen full of food scraps, the kettle sparking electricity, couldn’t see through the windows as they’d not been cleaned in what appeared seemingly years, the cupboards full of old rusty foodstocks with dead food on the floor & in the kitchen sink.
I wrote my name with a heart up all of the architraves going vertically & un-pon the leather lounge that you couldn’t sit on…a Qld Health Social Worker put smilie faces after my handy work in the mould & mildew that I used my finger for.
The toilet had faeces in it, the bathroom vanity had chewing gum clogging the drain, the shower made me want to vomit. It was sickening!!!!!!!!
Cockroaches crawled over me every night for 3 1/2 mths…I literally started naming them after 2-3 wks!!! I was demanded to report etc twice a week to a woman that thought she was important & had some sort of power.
I even watched beautiful furniture that was donated go for weeks & weeks within the rain. So much waste. And I guess you guys thought you were giving…. LoL!!!!!!!!!
A woman from another Church helped me clean Hillsong’s hell-hole so it was slightly livable so please STOP ranting with your praise of an arrogant, mysoginistic man & his upstart prissy wife who are anything but humble!!!!!!!
Just the way that they speak is embarrassing to be associated with.
YES… the enemy is taking them down & about time too!!! …they are the enemy…they are their own!!!
Hillsong deserve what’s coming their way & in all honesty, all of you groupies need to find Jesus. Bryan & Bobbie have bowed out now because they know what’s coming & they’re maintaining what little integrity that they have, which isn’t much!!!
It’s Hillsong & people like yourselves who worship satan because of the money making pop culture within the Church that have caused disgrace to the Church, not the other way around!
I hope for the sake of all who aren’t as ignorant & arrogant as you from what embarrassing comments I’ve read will be represented & justice will be served!! And if it’s not, GOD is our Great Avenger!!!
Grow up people & stop worshiping a pop-culture satanic financial enterprise!! And STOP giving money to them to pay for they’re overseas flights, holidays, homes, cars etc etc etc….
Start feeding the homeless & fix up theirs & your own backyard!!!!!!!
Many blessings,
A

Dear Ann-Marie, I’m so sorry to hear this. As an RN for over 4 decades, I’ve helped others in this situation previously (again and again)… I’m also sad that you weren’t reached out to and felt so alone and betrayed. It’s also a shame that when someone is the CEO of a Company and they do their level best to help as many people as possible, when those who are ‘down the flowchart’ (as it were), don’t do their job, that THEY are the ones with damaged reputations!
I’m sad that your quite understandable anger is directed at those at the top, however, as a Registered Nurse , I’m sure you’ve seen people not doing their jobs well ‘down the line’, and it would be poor to blame the CEO of the hospital (& Hillsong is a much bigger corporation than that). I hope you and your caseworker wrote to them about this and had meetings with the people who were assigned to running this place – then pray for them all.

Church leadership must be beyond reproach. Satan is a roaring Lion seeking those he can destroy. Carl lentz,Ravi Zacharias and others are men who lived lives of hypocrisy, seeming to be upstanding and righteous while all the while doing highly immoral things. They reaped the financial blessing and the notoriety. They had their reward on Earth. But now how many have been discouraged in their faith because of them?

A great word Micheal. I have loved what God has done in my life through the Hillsong Church and also both yourself and Valery. Thankyou for standing up for God’s anointed. In the trials Brian is facing he is mixing with the great men like Joseph and Daniel, and look at what happened to them and their influence as they continued to stand as godly men in the midst of what evil men tried to do. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord. I’m standing and praying with you as Brian and Bobbie endure this difficult time. Thanks for sharing Michael Murphy .

It is amazing how unforgiving and inconsiderate some believers have become. Never looking at the bigger picture knowing enough scripture to cast some of the bigger stones. How about looking at it from an angle of judgment beginning at the house of the LORD and now hoping that Brian’s stepping aside move is one of remorse leading to repentance. Yes, we cannot ignore the allegations but we also cannot just brush aside the genuine impact the ministry of Hillsong has made under Brian’s leadership. The anointing is either genuine or fake upon his life. The former is definitely evident upon his life, the ministry in song is evident as we are still singing some of the older versions in our churches with the manifestation of the presence of GOD. Let’s keep on praying for the man as the LORD is busy with operation clean up in HIS Church

Was never a big fan of HS to start with, I feel that once a Church becomes “MEGA”, something is lost, sin creeps in, dare I say;

Does God then lift his anointing from that movment, it’s all about the show rather than the one who should be worshipped?

Anthony Franken So what’s your main point? So In your understanding God despises Big Churches?

Anthony Franken
Pastor Prince Blessing Chikezie
No he doesn’t despise big Churches, but they become a lot more impersonal, people can come and go from a Sunday service without anyone knowing, or caring.
Alot harder to do that in a home church setting with a half a dozen people.
Plus it’s easier to hide sin from the masses.

Anthony FrankenThanks for replying in a civilized manner. Although, I disagree a bit but you made some good point too…most large churches tend to be impersonal in operation. However. Sin is everywhere and can be found or hide in small and big churches. We all just need God’s grace to become a rapturable church because all have sin.

How do u reach the world if not by going big.not a 1 man job to grow big..Jesus reach the world in 10year+ and His fellows. Just because then there wasn’t any legal obligation to register your group. Same and books of Paul. I see that Paul was even bigger but not registered name just Christian. We can not think in 21 century and judge in with 15 century thought.. And Christianity not about Church or Churches…there different kind of people that need to be safe..some don’t like small Churches and some do..it’s not a 1 way stroke…And don’t but limitation to God..Everything serves its purpose. Big Church or not God is in Control server Him in faith and truth…No distraction…
