She confronted Stacey, who as her leader, had seniority.

Australian Megachurch Pastor Corey Turner Admits Sexual Misconduct with Fellow Pastor

Corey Turner, who recently resigned as lead pastor of a multi-national megachurch based in Australia, has broken his silence and stated that he engaged in “a morally inappropriate relationship” with fellow minister, Stacey Hilliar.

On Thursday, Turner, formerly global senior pastor of Neuma Church based in Melbourne, posted a 400-word statement to social channels for his self-named ministry.

“In a fog of deception that clouded my emotions and judgement, I sinned and compromised my relationship with God, my marriage covenant, my character, and my calling to ministry,” wrote Turner. “I have sinned against God, my family and the church and I am deeply sorry and repentant for my part in this and ask God and you for forgiveness.”

Turner confirmed that he and his wife, Simone, have resigned from the multi-site megachurch, which church leaders first announced on Feb. 4 as previously reported by The Roys Report (TRR). A charismatic megachurch seemingly modeled after Hillsong, Neuma Church has nine locations in Australia, as well as campuses in Bangkok, Thailand, and San Francisco.

Initially, the board of Neuma Church cited the Turners’ “health and wellbeing” as the reason for the couple’s abrupt resignation. Five days later, a church statement clarified that “an inappropriate relationship” between Corey Turner and Hilliar, an executive leader at the church, had precipitated both resignations.

In his statement, Turner cited “fatigue” as a reason for his moral failure. “I didn’t sufficiently guard my heart, reach out for help from trusted spiritual fathers, take decisive action or get the necessary rest I needed from the compounding levels of fatigue in my own soul,” he wrote.

Stating that his wife and children have “faithfully stood beside” him, Corey Turner added that he and Simone are receiving support and direction from “seasoned and competent spiritual leaders.” He wrote: “Simone was innocent, I am not, yet we are committed to moving forward together into the fulness of God’s restorative plan for our marriage.”

Turner also alludes a half-dozen times to a process of “restoration,” including references to a “next chapter” and “moving forward.” He concludes: “. . . (W)e are filled with hope knowing that the restorative grace we have preached to others is available to us also.”

TRR reached out to Hilliar and Neuma Church for comment but did not receive any response.

In comments on his Instagram post, followers of Turner, including several fellow charismatic ministers, largely praised the former pastor.

Church planter Dave Gilpin wrote, “Corey, thanks for blazing a trail. No one has credentials to judge, and if we do, it’s our own judgement for not praying for you more. Life is complex, ministry is like mountain climbing, our adversary is vigilant and our own strength is weak.”

Entrepreneur Alana Kenndy wrote, “No judgement Corey! We have all sinned and fallen short! You are a Man of honour and your wife a Queen for her forgiveness.”

Evangelist Tim Hall, Epic Church Senior Pastor Steve Penny, itinerant minister Jean-Luc Trachsel, and prophetic school director Ally Cawthorn wrote similar comments in support.

However, when church watchdog account Hillsong Accountability re-posted Turner’s statement, it generated a range of responses.

Australian jazz artist Simone Waddell objected to the language about ‘fatigue’ in the statement. “‘Oops I was so exhausted I had an ongoing adulterous affair,’” she wrote. “I hope he’s not re-platformed.”

Another commenter, Jasmine Bee, wrote, “Given his position, a public apology is appropriate. The gushing comments that followed are not. The focus should be on protecting the spouses and children who have been hurt by this scandal.”

A user named John said, “It’s a lot of christianese to say yeah I messed up.”

Suspended credentials and unanswered questions

In the wake of the scandal, the board of Neuma Church announced that Raef Soliman, formerly listed on the church website as “Apostolic Pillar,” is serving as interim senior pastor.

A search for another senior pastor is underway, the board later announced. In the past week, the church’s website has removed a page listing its executive leaders (an archived version from Feb. 20 is available.)

The board also stated that it would not pursue an investigation of the scandal involving Turner. Rather, the statement on Feb. 9 noted that “the matter is now in the hands” of the church’s overseeing denomination, Australian Christian Churches (ACC).

A week later, on Feb. 15, Wayne Alcorn, president of the ACC, announced that the ministerial credentials of Turner and Hilliar had been “suspended.” Alcorn added that: “The matter is now being considered by our National Executive in accordance with our processes.”

TRR contacted the ACC regarding the status and specifics of the investigation into Turner and Hilliar but did not receive a response.

Echoing language used by Turner and the church, Alcorn’s statement referred to the misconduct between Turner and Hilliar as an “inappropriate relationship”—a term some experts would dispute.

Leading abuse survivor advocacy law firm BozLaw defines it as adult clergy sexual abuse “when a religious leader engages in sexual contact (hands on OR hands off) with an adult congregant or any vulnerable person.”

In a statement to TRR, Jimmy Hinton, an author who trains church leaders in abuse prevention, urged Neuma Church to hire an outside firm with expertise to conduct an independent investigation.

Hinton also said leaders’ statements inevitably have left church members with several questions.

Referring to the scandal surrounding Turner’s departure as pastor, Hinton wrote: “I can almost guarantee that church members are, at a minimum, wondering:

1. 1. What constitutes an ‘inappropriate relationship’?
   2. Were leaders aware of this?
   3. If they were aware, how long were they aware?
   4. Are there more ‘inappropriate relationships’ than just the one? And
   5. What measures have been put in place to ensure members are protected and that this won’t happen again?”

Out of sincere respect to those who have known me, trusted me and been connected in some way to my ministry as a Christian leader over the past 25 years, it’s important that I publicly confess that the recent allegations toward me of my engagement in a morally inappropriate relationship is regrettably true.

Towards the end of 2023 I didn’t sufficiently guard my heart, reach out for help from trusted spiritual fathers, take decisive action or get the necessary rest I needed from the compounding levels of fatigue in my own soul. In a fog of deception that clouded my emotions and judgement I sinned and compromised my relationship with God, my marriage covenant, my character, and my calling to ministry. I have sinned against God, my family and the church and I am deeply sorry and repentant for my part in this and ask God and you for forgiveness.

I’m forever grateful to my amazing wife Simone and our beautiful children who have faithfully stood beside me and embraced me in my weakness. Simone was innocent, I’m not, yet we are committed to moving forward together into the fulness of God’s restorative plan for our marriage. Together we are receiving the support and direction of seasoned and competent spiritual leaders as we take the necessary time for God to heal and restore us. With the help of gifted counsellors I am confronting the errors of my own heart and receiving ministry for the unhealed wounds that have contributed to my actions.

We have officially resigned from our role as Senior Pastors of Neuma Church. Alleged ‘Inappropriate Relationship’ Between 2 Top Pastors Leads to Shake-up at Global Megachurch

An alleged “inappropriate relationship” between two top pastors has led to a major shake-up at Neuma Church—a multi-national megachurch, based in Australia.

Last Sunday, Jacomi Du Preez, a board member at Neuma Church in Melbourne, Australia, announced during a livestreamed service that global senior pastors Corey and Simone Turner had abruptly resigned. Du Preez said the reason for the resignation was that “their health and wellbeing is such that they are no longer able to function in these roles.”

However, in a statement to church members on Friday, which was obtained by The Roys Report (TRR), the Neuma board divulged that a church member had come forward with an allegation that Pastor Corey Turner was in “an inappropriate relationship with Pastor Stacey Hilliar.” As a result of the allegation, Pastor Hilliar has resigned, as well.

According to her website, Hilliar and her husband, Jai, serve on the Executive Team at Neuma Church. Jai oversees the church’s business operations and Stacey oversees “the Prophetic Pillar,” including “worship, creativity, prayer, and the prophetic.” Hilliar also is an author and podcaster, who leads her own self-named ministry.

After receiving the allegation, the board immediately “stood down” Corey Turner and Hilliar, pending an internal investigation, the statement said. The allegation also was reportedly communicated to Turner and Hilliar, who then resigned, as well as the Australian Christian Churches (ACC), which credentialed both pastors.

Seemingly addressing the church’s previous statement, attributing the resignations to health issues, the board added: “Understandably, both pastors were under significant stress, and the Board had concerns about their health and wellbeing, as well as those of their families.”

The board said it didn’t disclose more information last week “to protect the complainant,” who wished to remain anonymous, and “the families of all those involved.” However, the board noted, “There has been much speculation in the public domain, and we feel it is important that we respond clearly to avoid further speculation.”

In wake of the scandal, Raef Soliman, formerly listed on the church website as “Apostolic Pillar,” is serving as interim senior pastor of Neuma Church.

TRR reached out to Neuma Church, the Turners, and Hilliar for comment, but did not receive a response.

Since February 2019, Corey and Simone Turner had served as lead pastors of Neuma Church, then known as Bridge Church. Prior to this, Corey Turner ministered for two decades, serving in pastoral roles at several Melbourne congregations, including CityLife Church, Discovery Church, and Activate Church.

Corey Turner and the church board rolled out a rebranding of Neuma Church in fall 2019, and months later announced a plan to launch more campuses.

By 2021, the Turners had adopted the title “global senior pastors” of Neuma Church, which has locations in Thailand and San Francisco. In 2022, the church’s “vision night” presented an ambitious plan to “plant 200 Neuma churches across four global hubs . . .”

The two pastors allegedly involved in an inappropriate relationship together—Corey Turner and Stacey Hilliar—have posted several times in recent years about each other on social media.

In February 2020, Corey Turner posted that Hilliar was a “firebrand woman of God . . . one of the best preachers you’ll ever hear.” And, in August 2022, he posted a picture of Hilliar leading worship. He wrote: “We are only at the starting line of what God is about to pour out on his people through your ministry.”

Similarly, in September 2015, Stacey Hilliar posted about Turner, writing, “Corey has such a strong anointing on his life.”

In a post on Oct. 28, 2023, Turner posted about returning from a ministry trip with Hilliar and other Neuma Church staff. “It’s been an amazing privilege to travel across Europe and minister with covenant family and 5 fold leaders,” he wrote.

Investigation to be conducted by ACC

The board of Neuma Church has canceled a previously announced internal probe of Turner and Hilliar and has passed the matter to the ACC, the church’s overseeing denomination.

“Given both pastors have resigned, the Board was advised that it should not proceed with an internal investigation,” stated the board. “However, as both parties are ACC credential holders, the matter is now in the hands of the ACC. We will cooperate with the ACC in their processes, and we are thankful for their support during this difficult time.”

Formerly known as the Assemblies of God in Australia, the ACC was founded in 1937 and currently consists of 1,100 churches and 3,300 ministers, according to the organization.

Disgraced Hillsong founder Brian Houston served as president of the ACC from 1997 to April 2009, when Wayne Alcorn was elected to lead the Pentecostal denomination. Alcorn preached at Neuma Church on the Sunday the Turners’ resignation was announced.

TRR reached out to ACC regarding the status and specifics of the investigation into the Turners and Hilliar but did not receive a response.

On its website, the ACC’s United Constitution, adopted in April 2023, provides information about the ministerial credentials it offers and how a suspension could occur.

The ACC’s list of eight qualifications includes signing a “code of conduct” and also to demonstrate “the qualifications set out in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:7-9 for a leader in the church.” These passages specify honoring marriage vows.

The United Constitution of the ACC further states: “Credentials and certificates may be suspended or withdrawn on the grounds of improper conduct or false teaching by decision of a majority of the National Officers.”

However, neither the ACC’s website nor its constitution specify the organization’s process for an investigation.

Jimmy Hinton, an author who trains church leaders in abuse prevention, said he believes that the Neuma situation “warrants an independent investigation.” He said church members become “armed with facts” through third-party investigations, which dispel false narratives and rumors.

Hinton added: “It also helps determine whether leaders knew about this before or if there have been patterns of this kind of misconduct over the years.”

For its part, the board of Neuma Church stated the search for a permanent Senior Pastor is underway, expressing hope for “a successful transition into the next season.”

“We all have confidence in God, who is building His Church, and we ask that you continue to pray for our church as we navigate this next season.”

UPDATE: On Feb. 15, Australian Christian Churches announced in an email to ACC pastors that the ministerial credentials of Turner and Hilliar have been “suspended.” The full statement obtained by TRR is included below.

Always smelt a rat with this one. He claims to have been a police officer. One evening as he was getting off stage at church I approached him and identified myself as former veteran victorian copper. He did not want to engage but I pressed towards him and asked him where he worked as a copper and also his registered number. He would only give me a brief answer on where he allegedly seerved after I had told him where i served and i ended up with ptsd. I invited him for a coffee but he flatly refused and then introduced me to his “bouncer” Being a reasonably big strong man of some physical presence myself I was not intimidated but the inference was there of get out of my face or you will be escorted away. I think the bouncer needed a change of under wear when I starred him down. My Holy Spirit antennaes were up and in full op mode. Yep another shonky looking for fame and glory and a bit on the side if they cn get it. My prediction is that he will be one of many this year and praise Jesus!!!!

But remember, once the sin is admitted, God forgive, so all new wine skin! That’s the theory. However, the fact remains, for someone who did it with a young staffer in Enjoy church in QLD, ‘what rights you have to throw stone at other people’?

The Board would like to thank Neuma Church for their support in this difficult period. We
are here to serve you, the congregation and wanted to provide an update to you today.

We acknowledge this statement provides additional information to that which was
communicated last Sunday regarding Pastor Corey & Simone Turner’s resignations. At
that time, the Board concluded that we were unable to disclose more information in
order to protect the complainant and the families of all of those involved.

There has been much speculation in the public domain, and we feel it is important that
we respond clearly to avoid further speculation and provide clarity on the situation.

Last week, the Board received a complaint from a member of the Church, alleging that
Pastor Corey Turner was in an inappropriate relationship with Pastor Stacey Hilliar. The
complainant requested to remain anonymous, and the Board respected that request.

The allegation was put to both pastors and communicated to Australian Christian
Churches (ACC) (as the pastors are both credentialed by ACC). Both pastors were
immediately stood down by the Board, pending an internal investigation.

Understandably, both pastors were under significant stress, and the Board had
concerns about their health and wellbeing, as well as that of their families.

Both pastors tendered their resignations, and in the circumstances, the Board accepted
those resignations. The Board has been transparent regarding these matters with the
Senior Leadership Team and the ACC.

Given both pastors have resigned, the Board was advised that it should not proceed
with an internal investigation. However, as both parties are ACC credential holders, the
matter is now in the hands of the ACC. We will cooperate with the ACC in their
processes, and we are thankful for their support during this difficult time.

The Board is actively working with the Senior Leadership Team through this difficult
period, to affect a successful transition into the next season, including the appointment
of a permanent Senior Pastor.

We all have confidence in God, who is building His Church, and we ask that you
continue to pray for our church as we navigate this next season.

The Roys Report puts out a story on the resignation of Corey and Simone Turner of the Neuma cult.

The TRR reports,

Global Senior Pastors Resign from Australia-Based, Multi-National Megachurch

A married couple, who served as ‘global senior pastors’ of a multi-national megachurch with locations in Australia, Thailand, and the U.S., has resigned abruptly.

During livestreamed services Sunday, the board secretary of Neuma Church in Melbourne, Australia, Jacomi Du Preez, announced that Corey and Simone Turner had resigned as global senior pastors.

“Due to unfortunate circumstances, it has become apparent that their health and wellbeing is such that they are no longer able to function in these roles,” said Du Preez. She added that the church’s leadership team is “not at liberty to share the difficult circumstances that have led to this point.”

According to social posts, the Turners traveled more than 1,000 miles northwest to Tanawha in Queensland, Australia, just last weekend to launch the latest Neuma Church and seemed in good health.

“We had an amazing time with (Pastors) Corey and Simone Turner and (Pastor) Steve Cawthorn to celebrate the official launch,” stated a post from Neuma Sunshine Coast. “We loved having you join us, and we are so excited to see what God is going to do!”

The multi-site church had advertised that the Neuma Global Summit would occur on Saturday, Feb. 3, with leaders from all campuses set to attend. Three days prior to that event, Neuma Church posted on social media that the summit had “been postponed until further notice due to unforeseen circumstances.”

Du Preez said on Sunday that Raef Soliman, who is currently listed on the church’s website as “apostolic pillar,” has been appointed by the board as interim senior pastor.

“We ask all of you to pray for God’s wisdom and guidance, and that he make a way for all of us forward through this period of transition,” said Du Preez.

While video of Neuma’s Sunday service was soon removed from Facebook, The Roys Report (TRR) has obtained a recording of the service, including Du Preez’s announcement.

Neuma Church lists nine locations across Australia on its website, as well as campuses in San Francisco, California, and Bangkok, Thailand.

Corey Turner, a preacher in Australia for over 25 years, and his wife, Simone, had served as lead pastors of Neuma Church since 2019.

Corey Turner is the son of longtime Australian minister Len Turner. In April 2021, the younger Turner was appointed to the executive council of Australian Christian Churches (ACC), formerly known as the Assemblies of God in Australia. Turner is no longer listed on the ACC website.

TRR reached out to Neuma Church and to Corey Turner for a statement about the resignation but did not receive a response.

In Neuma Church’s most recent public filing, dated June 2023, Corey Turner was listed as the chairperson of Neuma Church Inc. The church reported $9 million (AUS) in annual revenue and $14 million (AUS) in assets.

As a multi-national charismatic-Pentecostal church, headed by “global senior pastors,” Neuma Church resembles Hillsong, an embattled megachurch also headquartered in Australia. Hillsong founders and global senior pastors, Brian and Bobbie Houston, resigned from the megachurch in 2022 amid a sexual misconduct scandal and a government financial inquiry.

Several charismatic figures linked to Hillsong have preached at Neuma Church in recent years, including Bill Johnson of Bethel Church, itinerant minister Heidi Baker of Iris Global, revivalist John Arnott, and Banning Liebscher of Jesus Culture Church.

Founded as Richmond Temple in 1916, the church was most recently known as Bridge Church, starting in 2013.

It was rebranded as Neuma Church in October 2019—eight months after the Turners were appointed as lead pastors. The Turners became “global senior pastors” of Neuma Church in early 2021, according to an archived version of the church website.

Following the board announcement at Neuma Church on Sunday, ACC president Wayne Alcorn delivered the Sunday sermon. “It is a joy of mine to be here on a significant day,” said Alcorn.

His message referred in passing to the lead pastors’ resignation.

“If we allow it, moments like this can cause doubt to creep into our soul,” he preached. “Many of you expected that this church, under the leadership that you’ve followed for the last few years, that things wouldn’t change. And here’s the news: it has changed. It will change.”

Alcorn suggested “disillusionment” as a possible response of congregants and said they must not believe in illusions to begin with. “You think the church is perfect? Or that leaders won’t change? Or they won’t do things that disappoint us?”

“I’m a preacher’s kid—it ain’t perfect!” he said. “. . . We need to have faith, because we’re all on a journey whether we’ve got a title or not.”

Prophet Stacey Hilliar claims God took her “into indescribable realms of glory, freedom and joy,” being hid “under His wing and took [her] up high into His presence” stating she is “forever changed.”

I had one of the most significant God encounters of my life this week where God took me into indescribable realms of glory, freedom and joy. He hid me under His wing and took me up high into His presence and I am forever changed. The fact that I was surrounded by my team and covered in prayer and love for over 4 hrs is heavens kiss.
